More Movie Reviews
Michael Clayton – This Academy Award nominated film starring George Clooney was definitely deserving of attention. Mom and I really enjoyed this film, dad slept through it. Although somewhat confusing and chronologically challenging to follow, it was a terrific drama.
Sleeper – To be reviewed.

Who will be the next American Idol?
You may or may not know that mom’s favorite show is American Idol. She was very disappointed at this weeks performances and thinks that the boys are much better than the girls. She thinks that the 17 year old David Archuletta below is going to be the next Idol. Who do you want to win and why?

Have You Seen Any Good Films Lately?
Over the last month, mom has enjoyed watching many movies. Below are some of the films we’ve seen and our comments. Let us know if you’ve seen a good film lately.
Gone Baby Gone - This is a drama about a missing child. Initially when we put it on we were concerned it may be a little depressing. However, we found it to be an interesting mystery with a twist ending. Parts of it were confusing, but ultimately mom really enjoyed it. This film leaves you contemplating what you would do confronting with difficult choices.
3:10 to Yuma - Initially, mom thought “Ugh, I hate westerns!” But this was no ordinary cowboy movie. Sure we wondered why the lawmen didn’t just kill the robber from the get-go but I guess then there would be no movie to make. From the opening scene the movie grabs your attention and holds it all the way through. Although Russell Crowe is the headliner in this film, his performance is rather flat compared to his characters in some of his other films. Christian Bale really shines as the down and out, broke farmer, playing the role with depth and nuance. We really enjoyed this film, which left us feeling very satisfied.
The Heartbreak Kid – Not another Ben Stiller film, right? Although, a bit dirty and low brow, we laughed a lot during this film. Jerry Stiller plays Ben’s father in the film and is upto par as the hysterical dad. Not as good as There’s Something About Mary, but definitely good for a laugh. Mom didn’t like the ending – thought it was silly.
Hairspray - Although the Whitman Family singers are only second to the Von Trapp’s, mom has not been in the mood for a musical. After several days of pleading, I finally convinced her that this movie musical was worthy of her time. Not only is the music uplifting and fun, but the acting is top notch (with exception of the girl who plays Penny). John Travolta, Michele Pfifer, Queen Latifa and Christopher Walken are just a few of the top notch stars in this film. At the end of the film, I seranaded mom with my wonderful rendition of songs that were cut from the film but in the original Broadway version. She told me to keep my day job!
Across the Universe – This little known film had been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical of the Year. It takes the wonderful music of the Beatles and weaves it into a cleverly crafted love story about the 1960′s and Vietnam. The actors voices were amazing, including a few supporting characters whose performances were reminiscent of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. The movie felt a little long but it was extremely creative and visually interesting. Aunt Carole, you would really love this film!!!
Superbad – I wasn’t sure whether or not to show mom and dad this film but low and behold we all cracked up hysterically. Innundated with immature, potty humor and stupid, slapstick comedy bits, this film is 2 hours of non-stop laughter. Definitely will be a cult classic for generation Y. Dad verbatem “If you’re 5% prudish, don’t watch this film.” Mom and dad equate it to a modern version of Animal House. Enough said.
Wedding Crashers – Cult classic, very funny in my opinion but mom says “Nothing Great.” Dad says “Plenty of laughs as the buddies live it up at other people’s weddings.”
Jerry Macguire – Worthy of the Oscar. Very enjoyable from beginning to end. Every man’s dream – success when all odds are against you. Very inspirational. Great performances by Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding, Jr (won best supporting actor) and Renee Zellwegger. And who can forget the adorable little boy in the movie. Wonder what he’s doing now?
I Could Never Be Your Woman – Michelle Pfifer goes for a younger man, Paul Rudd in this cutesy love story. Look out for the daughter in the movie, a younger Saoirse Ronan (who also starred in Atonement and was nominated for Oscar for that role), who steals your heart in all her scenes. Only available at Blockbuster. Mom didn’t think Paul Rudd was good for the part.
Nanny Diaries – Sexy Scarlett Johansenn stars in this film. Dad thought it was cute.
The Waitress – Another cute film starring Keri Russell (Felicity). Very far fetched.
Evan Almighty - Steve Carrel does it again. This insanely unrealistic film offers laughs galore. Mom and dad really enjoyed this one. It’s fun for the whole family.
