Update, Friday February 29, 2008
Yesterday was a great day with mom. Philip and Mia visited her until 3 PM and then we had a quiet afternoon napping and watching TV. Dad and I left the hospital early around 9:30 PM and mom had a good night’s rest. Today a new physical therapist came by and gave mom some other exercises to work on until she goes to rehab. The physical therapist got mom out of bed into a wheel chair so that we can take her all around the 10th floor. Excellent progress!

Don’t Quit – posted for Philip Whitman
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit -
Rest, if you must, but don’t quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out—
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit -
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Hi Helene –
Here is a picture of our devastatingly handsome grandson, Brady. I’m totally unbiased of course.

Who will be the next American Idol?
You may or may not know that mom’s favorite show is American Idol. She was very disappointed at this weeks performances and thinks that the boys are much better than the girls. She thinks that the 17 year old David Archuletta below is going to be the next Idol. Who do you want to win and why?

Mom received the DTPACE protocol which includes 6 different chemotherapies. They gave her 96 hours of chemo starting on Thursday, February 21st through 24th, and will give her Velcade on 2/21, 2/24, 2/28, and 3/2. Depending upon how quickly her white counts recover, she will start a second cycle of chemo.
